Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970, according to EarthDay.org. Earth Day returns on Monday, and will be recognized this weekend with several local opportunities to give back to our home planet.

United Spinal Association Illinois Chapter is inviting people living with paralysis caused by trauma or medical conditions to a Spinal Cord Injury Day at 9:30 a.m. May 18 at the American Lutheran Church, 1560 Career Center Road, Bourbonnais.

From 7:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the Bradley American Legion, 835 W. Broadway St., Bradley, the Bradley Lions Club will be hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast featuring pancakes, sausage and biscuits and gravy.

Superintendent Matt Vosberg updated the BBCHS District 307 School Board on the district’s facilities planning process.  “The next step for [the process] is to do a community-wide survey,” he said. “We will send out postcards April 22 to all households in our community.”

Manteno News

On Monday, the Manteno Village Board unanimously approved the intergovernmental agreement among the county, city of Kankakee, village of Bourbonnais and Visit Kankakee County for the promotion of tourism in the area.

As part of National Volunteer Week, the Illinois Veterans’ Home at Manteno invites veteran service providers, community organizations and individuals to a volunteer fair to learn more about volunteer opportunities and enjoy food from local food trucks.
