LE MARS — Plymouth County Engineer Tom Rohe reviewed right-of-way and topsoil storage payments and compensation for the loss of trees to four landowners during the Tuesday, April 9, Plymouth County Board of Supervisors meeting.

HINTON — After a failed bond referendum in November 2023 and a failure to approve a debt service levy for the payment of general obligation bonds and a PPEL (Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) in March, the Hinton Save our School committee met on Thursday, April 10, to brainstorm how to proceed.

SHELDON — Athletes from Le Mars Community, Gehlen Catholic, Hinton and Akron-Westfield competed at a track meet hosted by Sheldon on Monday.

ORANGE CITY — Le Mars Community won the Class A title while MMCRU brought home the Class B hardware at the Unity Knight Relays on Monday. Hinton and Gehlen Catholic also competed in the Class B portion of the event.

AMES — Iowa State’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Discover Ames are teaming up to bring the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s state soccer championships to Ames for three years, starting in 2025, officials from all three organizations announced Wednesday.

LE MARS — The Le Mars Community girls soccer team saw the 3-0 lead they built up in the first half slip away in the final 10 minutes of action against Missouri River Activities Conference opponent Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln on Monday. The Bulldogs ended up losing by a final score of 4-3.

HULL — The Remsen St. Mary’s boys golf team had the top four individual scores of their War Eagle Conference dual against Trinity Christian on Monday at Rolling Hills Country Club. The Hawks won the meet by a 178-206 score.

SPENCER — The Le Mars Community girls tennis team competed at the Dennis Price Tournament hosted by Spencer on Saturday. 

GEORGE — The Gehlen Catholic golf teams won road contests over George-Little Rock at Otter Valley Country Club on Monday.

BRUNSVILLE — Sisters Metta and Mya Skov haven’t had much chance to practice their golf game this spring. The pair are members of the Le Mars Community girls soccer team and those practices and games have taken precedence over golf. 

SIOUX CENTER — Le Mars and Akron-Westfield were among the teams to send athletes to the Sioux Center Invite on Thursday. However, the Le Mars boys did not attend and the Le Mars girls had some of their younger athletes compete.

HINTON — The Hinton girls golf team continued to see their scores drop in War Eagle Conference play, despite the windy conditions at Deer Run Golf Course on Thursday. The Blackhawks shot a season-low 192 to finish 40 strokes better than their opponent from Remsen St. Mary’s.
