JENNINGS, La. (NEWS 15) — Investigators with the Jennings Police Department announced on Friday, January 10, the arrest of a man linked to at least nine drug overdoses, including one death, in five days in the city. Police said they arrested Ronald Martin, 60, of Jennings. They added he supplied the drugs that led to the overdoses, oftentimes drugs laced with fentanyl. Investigators noted when they executed the search warrant of the home, they found 11 pounds of drugs. Those narcotics include marijuana, methamphetamine, powder cocaine, as well as heroin and fentanyl. Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes stated this was the largest fentanyl bust in the city’s history.

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — About 200,000 Louisiana residents are living with a heart condition called atrial fibrillation but there is a new treatment available locally to treat irregular heartbeat caused by AFib. The cardiac lab at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center now possesses exciting new technology used to treat an irregular heart rhythm. Dr. Patrick Welch is a cardiologist who specializes in heart rhythm abnormalities. "It is faster, it's safer, and it's more effective and it allows us to offer the procedure to more patients sooner in the disease process," said Dr. Welch.
